Age of Empires 4 will arrive on October 28th, but before that happens, a closed beta test starting on August 5th will give Age Insiders a chance to get closer to the game and see how it really is.
The beta will include the tutorial mission, which teaches construction, economics, combat basics, and "other basic skills," and will also support multiplayer and AI games for up to eight. Only a "sample" of maps will be available during beta, but each will offer user-selectable options for size and appearance, while four of the eight civilizations of the day will be playable. release: Mongolian, English, Delhi Sultanate and Chinese.
The goal of the beta version is to fine-tune the systems, look for errors and balance issues, and establish some initial foundations for post-launch support. To that end, the developers hope that players will treat it as a real beta test: "Relic and World's Edge depend on you to play as many games as you can while testing the various encounter systems."
If you want to take part in the action yourself, you need to do so register as an Age Insider at 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 pm ET on August 3 (today is today, so don’t do that), check your email and upload the DxDiag file to your profile. Here's what you need to participate:
