If you want to build a mid-range PC around the Zen 3 or upgrade an existing compatible platform to AMD’s latest silicon, the Ryzen 7 5800X is a good choice. Especially right now, because it’s on sale on Amazon for $ 419, compared to its usual selling price of $ 449.
The 5800X has been one of the easiest Zen 3 parts to buy, as it has been in stock much more often than the Ryzen 9 5900X or 5950X. And while it’s perhaps not the most glamorous offering in AMD’s stable, it remains one of the best gaming CPUs, with strong performance at 1080p, 1440p, and even 4K, when combined with a capable graphics card.
Here’s the frequency, of course: GPUs are incredibly scarce right now. There are no built-in graphics here, so you can’t wait your time with an iGPU. If you're building a PC today around the Ryzen 7 5800X, you'll have to somehow get your hands on a discreet GPU or already have one that you can include in your new version.

The Ryzen 7 5800X is a great candidate for a mid-range PC. It is equipped with eight cores and 16 wires, can clock up to 4.7 GHz, and is powered by AMD's state-of-the-art Zen 3 architecture.See offer
Aside from the GPU action challenges, the Ryzen 7 5800X is a good base for a mid-range gaming PC. It is an 8-core / 16-wire processor with a base clock of 3.8 GHz, a maximum clock of 4.7 GHz and 32 GB of L3 cache. And being a Zen 3 part, it supports the PCI Express 4.0 specification (X570 or B550 chipset), which means you can get the most out of a fast and dazzling PCIe 4.0 SSD (some of the best models are rated for speed north of 7,000 MB / s).
There is a warning, beyond the GPU. While this is the lowest price we've seen on the Ryzen 7 5800X, the previous generation Intel Core i7 10700K offers similar gaming performance and is with trends around $ 319. This is a great price, although it does not have PCIe 4.0 support, if that is important to you. There’s also Intel’s new Rocket Lake-based Core i7 11700K, which supports PCIe 4.0 and is sold for $ 399.99 on Amazon Right Now.
