In case of doubt, people are clamoring for a new Left 4 Dead, Turtle Rock’s spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood, reached a maximum of 100,000 simultaneous players during last weekend’s beta.
Available to people who pre-ordered the game or purchased beta keys, Back 4 Blood quickly jumped to the top 10 Steam games of the past week with a maximum concurrent figure of 98,024 (via SteamDB). Although this beta ends today, Turtle Rock is running a second pre-beta version this weekend, starting Thursday, August 12th. It will also not lock behind pre-orders. higher at this time next week.
Created by the original developer of Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood certainly seems to have all the hallmarks of a worthy successor to the Valve zombie series. But from one band of survivors with less character in a way versus losing the dynamism of the way preferred by L4D fans, Morgan and I have all our doubts that Back 4 Blood can really live up to the legacy of Left 4 Dead.
Back 4 Blood will also always be online at launch, although Turtle Rock is exploring the possibilities of an offline mode. To your advantage, any future DLC can be played as long as you have at least one person in your group, without the need for all your friends to get the same content.
Back 4 Blood launches on Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Pass on October 12th.
