The popular video conferencing app Zoom now has apps, and among them are games. I know what you’re thinking: why would I play Zoom when I normally secretly play a second monitor while I’m at Zoom meetings? Good question, but Zoom games are multiplayer stuff designed to play with your video conferencing buddies, and if you’re unlucky, your boss will make you play.
One of the games is called Heads Up! And it's from Ellen DeGeneres. It’s been available on Android and iOS for years, but the implementation here makes sense. Described as a “fun spin on the nets,” you can play with your co-workers on Zoom instead of discussing quarterly earnings. Kahoot! It's about hosting "awesome" quizzes, while LGN Poker is poker and Werewolf with Friends is a multiplayer social deduction game.
There are new games between applications and most of them focus on team building. You definitely won’t go into Zoom with your friends who don’t work for fun, but hey, they do exist. Consider this a warning.
Zoom having games is not a big innovation. Microsoft Teams has games focused similarly to the frivolous fun of team building, while the popular Slack work chat app includes games, including GameMonk ("designed to stir up your creative juices a bit and bring your computer closer"). Facebook Messenger also has games. I want to see Doom in Zoom, sure not a huge question as it is already activated pianos, printers and oscilloscopes.
