The long invasion mode of Doom Eternal has been canceled as Id Software diverts its attention to a new PvE horde mode.
One of the strongest features before the release of Doom Eternal, Invasions would have made you jump into other players' games, in the style of Dark Souls, to give them a more fleshy challenge in the form of Invasions. one of the demons of hell. But while there was an absence at the launch followed by the news that would come later as a free update, the developer announced today that it has stopped working on the competitive feature.
Writing on Twitter earlier today, Id said he plans to move away from invasions to a new single-player horde mode.

"As many of you know, we intended to release a free game mode invasion update; however, the unintended consequences of the pandemic and remote work affected the progress of the development of this addition. Over this time, we have also seen and heard how many of you enjoy the variety of games and combat available at the expansive and master levels. With these factors in mind, we have decided to redirect our focus from the mode. invasion to create a horde mode for a brand new player ".
In addition to a new mode, Id is also planning a significant upgrade to the game's asymmetric 2v1 battle mode. The demons vs slayer deathmatch has already captured many of the ideas that would have been present in Invasions, and Id plans to reinforce it with a new map, balance changes and a new competitive structure based on ranks.
It would have been interesting to see how a Soul-style invasion system was applied to the infernal edges of Doom. Hopefully, this new survival challenge will more than make up for his absence.
