May 27 is Dragon Quest Day and, for the 35th anniversary of the series, Square Enix hosted a live broadcast the ongoing Dragon Quest games are presented. It wasn’t a super exciting stream for us, with a mobile game, an update to an online game that won’t be released worldwide, a remake of Dragon Quest 3 that will only hit consoles, and a spin- off called Dragon Quest Treasures for platforms without warning.
And then the final announcement of the show was a teaser announcing the next main game in the series: Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate. The trailer, less than a minute long, showed the logo that appeared in burning letters on cracked volcanic rock and a voice asked in Japanese, "What is the purpose of life?"
Back at the studio presenter, JOY tried to pull off some details from Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, who only gave vague answers. “It’s about having options,” he said. "You have to choose your way of playing." He confirmed "We will change the battle of commands", although they will not be completely removed from the system.
When asked what hardware would launch Dragon Quest 12, he heard a dramatic whistle to indicate that the question was not allowed. So no, we don’t know if it will arrive safely on the PC, though Dragon Quest 11 did. A simultaneous worldwide version is expected, although no release date has been announced.
