(You can buy $ 9,000 for $ 90, but once you reach that price, you can also get more perks and get the bonus.) EA will add $ 5 to the ALGS Championship prize pool for each individual package sold and $ 20 for each La Animal Kingdom collection, up to a limit of $ 2 million above the $ 1 million base, might add up to a total prize of $ 3 million.

If all this sounds weirdly familiar, you're probably thinking about The International, the annual Dota 2 championship tournament that massively finances its prizes by selling International battle pass. The scale of International far exceeds that of the ALGS – the 2019 award exceeded 34 million dollars and the next 10 International exceeds 40 million dollars – but it is also the first time that EA tries these things with Apex Legends. The first group of awards funded by The International in 2013 was on a very similar scale, reaching $ 2.9 million, but increased the following year to about $ 11 million. I’m sure EA would love to see a similar type of takeoff for their own big sporting event.
ALGS Championship packages are now on sale and will be available until June 1st. The tournament starts on May 22nd and runs until June 13.
