The Odyssey expansion for the Elite Dangerous space simulation has been alpha for the past five weeks and we’ve had mixed feelings. I wondered if adding humans to the game was a good idea and Nat had a bad time. But that’s what an alpha serves for: seeing what works and what doesn’t. And when the expansion finally hits everyone on May 19 this year, you can expect (well, with luck) a much more refined and refined experience.
Oddysey is one of the biggest expansions of Elite. Its main feature is to be able to get out of your ship and explore planets on foot. You can also land your ship on planets with thin atmospheres, walk around airports and star bases, take space taxis between places, and equip a lot of new equipment, including suits and weapons designed for first-person combat.
Despite his problems with the alpha, which runs from March 29 to May 5, Nat enjoyed being able to leave his boat for the first time. "Getting out of your boat is phenomenal. It was clean when I touched a launch boat picked up in the alpha, but there was an even more powerful feeling when I landed a boat that I been piloting for months: a ship I have seen through hundreds of bounty fighters, near-death experiences, shattered canopies and real-life experiences, and seeing the dirty from a human perspective. "
I've been playing Elite Dangerous since 2014, and that feels like one of the biggest leaps in the game in terms of scope and things to do. I will definitely be back on my Asp Explorer when Odyssey is released on May 19 and looking for a planet to take the first step.
