A couple of new games are now free for the week at Epic Games Store: the oddball zombie building game Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead, i Ironcast, a turn-based three-game tactical game inspired by Victorian science fiction.
We called Bridge Builder: The Walking Dead "the weirdest crossover of the year" when it came out in 2020. It's a physics-based bridge, as expected, but instead. Anonymous avatars, the builders are characters from The Walking Dead, such as Daryl, Michonne and Eugene, who create bridges and other structures through US ruins as they take their ass out of the hordes of zombies. It sounds silly, but I can think of worse reasons to build a bridge. (And of course you don't want to be taken too seriously, a good break from the usual non-stop darkness of TWD).

Ironcast is an unusual mashup in itself. In a high 19th century story, you pilot a steam engine against the enemies of the British Empire (many of whom are there), feeding your weapons and defenses by playing matches on a Bejeweled-style game board. The gameplay is reminiscent of games like this Puzzle Quest (or my personal favorite genre, Bret Airborne, and yes, I really enjoy match-three games quite a bit), but with an extra layer of light systems management and a bit of 2D mech-on-mech pyrotechnics.

As always, Bridge Builder: The Walking Dead and Ironcast are free for a week, which means you have until July 15 to make them your own. After that, they will be replaced by the adventure Myst-like Obduction and the Martian trading sim Offworld Trading Company.
