Rainbow Six Siege’s historically nasty map will be one of the first to make the leap from casual gaming to the group of maps ranked in an upcoming patch. Favela, a highly destructible map added in 2016, received a complete rework to the recent Siege North Star update. The map update was intended to be a "random rework" for Quick Play only, but Ubisoft is confident that the map will be balanced enough for Siege's more competitive mode.
"We know you want to give it a chance in the moonlight, so Favela comes to the classified and unclassified playlists close to you." Ubisoft he tweeted Wednesday.
The reborn Favela has a largely new design that addresses common aggressions while maintaining their visual identity. The most drastic change can be seen on the outside of the map, where there are now far fewer destructible walls.

Previously, the huge number of walls to reinforce or cover made their defenses frustrating. As for the attack, the malleable map gave the people who appeared the chance to get cheap killings. The reworking follows a similar framework to the rest of Siege’s maps: plenty of space to breathe at the bomb sites, fewer opportunities to look at swords, and more stairs to make navigation easier.
New Favela already feels like a map classified in many ways, except for one important difference: it’s a night-only destination. All of the maps used to have a night variant before Ubi removed them in 2018 for balance reasons (attackers could hide in the dark a little too well outside). Given that night is the only way to play Favela, I guess Ubi has changed his mind.
Ubi says Favela's positive comments during his first few weeks have informed the decision to add him to the rankings. I’m enjoying the rework so far, though, to be fair, it’s hard to know if cap the map is balanced until the players have spent a few months with it. You can play Favela in the rankings right now on the Siege test server or wait a few more weeks to get the Y6S2.2 patch.
