Update: At the end of the main broadcast of Final Fantasy 14, the game's director, Naoki Yoshida, gave an appropriate release date: November 23, 2021. He acknowledged that this is a little later than expected due to the pandemic. Covid-19 and that the development team does not want to make any commitment to the features to publish them soon. We have updated the following story to reflect this.
Original story: Everything is up in the air with the Covid-19 pandemic delaying games left and right, but the next expansion of Final Fantasy 14 will arrive on November 23, a little behind its usual schedule. . The news was announced today during the Final Fantasy 14 digital fan party, and while it may be disappointing that the expansion arrives a little late, the entire update schedule was expected to be delayed last year. .
Unlike other MMOs, Final Fantasy 14 runs on a fairly strict schedule, with major patches falling every three months, but having to switch to work from home last year caused some minor delays. Previous FF14 expansions were always launched during the summer, but it’s understandable that these delays have pushed back a bit.
Along with the release date, Square Enix also released an extensive CG trailer for the new expansion which, as always, was pretty impressive. You can watch the six-minute trailer above. It doesn’t reveal too many new details, but it’s full of new locations and brings up some important news.
Endwalker will be an extremely important expansion. It represents an end to the arc of current history that has been going on since Final Fantasy 14 was first released as a deeply flawed MMO (and then reworked into a very good one). Uncommon to MMOs, this one will have a big, dramatic conclusion that marks the end of the current story, even though the MMO will live on. What comes next, however, is still a great mystery.
We'll have more details on the extension as they become available. Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker arrives on November 23, 2021.
