Firaxis Games, best known for creating the Civilization and XCOM series, is currently looking for a series of new contracts, including, perhaps revealingly, a narrative narrative with a "knowledge and passion for world history." The list does not mention which game it would be for, only the "next AAA strategy title" in the studio. In addition to the narrative protagonist, Firaxis is also looking for various artists and programmers.
Civilization 6 seemed to be finally over earlier this year, with the release of the Anthology edition in June. The release includes major Gathering Storm and Rise and Fall expansion packs, as well as additional DLC content packs. With the knowledge that it’s probably not working on the latest in the series of six, it seems fair to speculate that Civilization 7 I could it may be in the works. Or maybe we'll see another kind of historical strategy game, away from Sid Meier's name?
In the near future, at least we won't have to wait too long to see it cap an interesting kind of historical strategy game, like Amplitude Studios Humanity is looming on the horizon. It comes out on August 17 and, in his preview, Tyler considers it a smart competitor to the Civilization series.
