Flight simulator balsa, creator of kerbal, launches an open beta right now

Here's a nice surprise: a new game from a beloved game developer that we can play right now. A few years ago, the creator of the Kerbal space program, Felipe "HarvesteR" Falanghe, attacked on his own to become Balsa Model Flight Simulator as a first virtual reality game. After the RV turned out to have a smaller audience than expected, especially for a model flight simulation game, it returned to work on Balsa, making it a wider PC game that can now be played in open beta.

“It’s a flight simulator for scale aircraft where you can design and build your own vehicles and take them on missions, battles and multiplayer,” Falanghe said in a video of the Future Games Show on Thursday. The open beta should be live soon on Steam using a relatively new feature called Steam Playtest. Following comments on the open beta, Falanghe plans to launch Balsa in Early Access in the coming months, in the same way that the Kerbal space program was initially developed.

“Raft is a game I want to make with a community of players around it,” Falanghe said. "This is Early Access. It's not about launching the game before it's over. It's an invitation for you to design the game with me."

In June I spoke with Falanghe his work on the Kerbal space program and how difficult it was to leave his creation behind. His inspiration for the Kerbal space program was the launch of model rockets with his brother and Balsa Model Flight Simulator comes from the same place. When they were kids, they loved model airplanes and described making Balsa as the first time their career in game development has been straightforward and straightforward. "I have no idea how it will compare to KSP. It's a whole new experience for me, and I hope for the players as well," he said.
