Half-Life 2 is being remastered by the group behind the extensive 2015 Half Life 2: mod update, in a project that will apparently put his previous work “embarrassed” and seems to have Valve’s blessing. A list of SteamDB names this new project Half-Life 2: remastered collection and includes the staff note that "this is a modification of Filip Victor, not related to Valve" in case we were all a little excited.
This is unfair, of course, because communities have often been allowed to apply a little back and polish to Valve’s old titles, and it’s not like we haven’t been here before with Half-Life: Black Mesa, a fan made a fundamental remake of the original game, it’s great, it took over a decade to get to its final form, it didn’t involve much in Valve and now it’s definitely the best way to experience that game.
Valve hasn't commented on this project yet, and of course a SteamDB listing doesn't necessarily translate to a Steam product page, but it will probably go the way of Black Mesa (all Valve asked for in this case was the word "Source" is removed from the title, to avoid confusion).
Half-Life 2: Update offers improvements such as many bug fixes, better lighting and fog, new particle effects, HDR, and a community comment mode with well-known Half-Life 2 Youtubers. When asked if he would extend the mod to Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and Episode 2 on a Steam forum thread in March, Victor said the updates to the episodes would be important, now it looks like they will be part of the Remastered collection.
There is no release date for Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection, with developer Victor writing, "The new version will embarrass HL2: Update / Episodes. But there is no release date." With the modification of Half-Life 2 Update, you will expect great things: and this same model shows the value of these projects in the community since, since its launch, Valve has been quietly improving Half-Life 2 'official 'to a state where it is better now than ever. I have contacted Victor to see if he will provide more details on the ambition of this project and will be updated with any answers.
