Knockout City, a temporarily EA-free ball game, has amassed more than two million players in just days after its release, the publisher announced last night.
Forgive me for being cynical, but I was preparing for Knockout City to fall apart on arrival. The game reveals the trailer he was very ridiculed, and Tyler walked away at a glance without being impressed. EA also just saw the Rocket Arena (a similar sand trigger) shoot. What hope did the 3v3 dodgeball have?
And yet it seems to have taken off.
Welcome to Knockout City, town: YOU! Well, you and TWO MILLION of your friends. If you haven't joined the #BlockParty free trial, why the hell not? Knockout City is available for free to try right now. 1/3 pic.twitter.com/Wo9u0R4Z9vMay 24, 2021
It is now likely to help Knockout City play its first ten days for free, making diving into superpower dodgeball easier. The game was also launched with a full cross game, in an effort to make sure the game had the best shot possible to maintain a player base.
But it also looks like Knockout City just turned out to be a fun, accessible, and surprisingly complex competitive shooter. Our Morgan has been playing it all week and thinks it could be the newest multiplayer game of the year.
"I'm impressed with the harmony of the Knockout City mechanics. Even when I'm grouped in a 1v3, I have a chance to dodge or catch all the balls they send me. "The basic rules of dodgeball naturally create comeback scenarios. Where I'm grabbing / throwing / grabbing / throwing repeatedly until I'm the last one standing. It's downright intoxicating.
It will be worthwhile to see how much of this audience Knockout City retains when they get a $ 20 price tag at the end of the month. But with the first season of the game starting today (with a new map, a playlist, and a ranked League League), Knockout City doesn’t seem to dodge soon.
