Lovecraft's Untold Stories, not to be confused with No Code's Stories Untold, is an action roguelita with a side-command of RPG mechanics that takes place in various Cthulhu-flavored venues, such as abandoned hospitals and former Victorian mansions. . It’s more action-oriented than you might expect, but the basics of madness, old age, and relentless rain are there and people seem to like it; has a "very positive" user rating in almost 500 reviews on Steam.
It's good enough to justify a sequel, The Untold Stories of Lovecraft 2, which will feature a similar game with a more advanced visual style, six different playable characters and cooperative multiplayer for up to four people. Players will also be able to craft their own equipment, including weapons, clothing, and consumables, using maps and resources found throughout the game.
It doesn't seem like the most conventional approach to a Lovecraftian game, which is usually more of a kind of "creepy horror" that is told through slow-paced adventures and role-playing games, but that doesn't mean that can't work: Stirring Abyss is an interesting XCOM-type view of classic mythos, for example, while the first-person adventure Call of the Sea is inspired by Lovecraft, but it's not a horror game. So you never know.
Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 will be released on Steam Early Access, featuring three of the six promised character classes, on October 28th. Check out some "pre-alpha" games below.
