A significant faction of people like the idea that Myst, a classic PC adventure, has recently had a remaster. A smaller faction of people within this significant faction does not like the new CGI sequences that were Full Motion Video in the original and the realmyst of the 2014 remake.
The new CGI isn’t horrible, and there was probably a lot of work to be done, but honestly it looks a bit like the Civilization VI leaders who also ran Myst and aren’t quite done with the realistic aesthetic that Myst relies on.
Naturally, modders have solved this problem (?) By doing what they do best. A good modder has replaced these naughty CGI bits with higher versions of the original FMV. You can find it on Steam forums. Due to changes in the game's plot, not all CGI bits can be easily replaced by FMV and the videos will not be 100% synchronized with what is being said. For all this, the developers of the new Myst have given modding its tacit blessing, and that’s neat.
