Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin won’t be out until July 9th, but players will be able to jump in early with the trial version coming on June 25th. Even better, the progress you make in this demo will move into the full game, though we don’t know how far the demo will be.
Announced during Capcom’s Ecom 2021 showcase, the free demo is just one of the news we learned about Monster Hunter Stories 2. Prior to the announcement, Capcom showed off a new story trailer that is the most complete aspect of the game so far, showing us pieces of the battle system and, perhaps most importantly, the narrative.
You can watch the trailer above, but the essence seems to be that you play a hunter named Red who inherited a baby Rathalos who prophesies to cause some kind of apocalypse. A major theme of the story is your ability to establish relationships with monsters without sacrificing them and peeling them to get cool armor. Being friends with monsters is not something the other characters in the story see with too much affection.
It’s basically the plot of Dreamworks ’How to Train Your Dragon, which I’m perfectly fine with because this movie rules.
This isn’t the first new trailer to receive Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin this week, and you can check it out the first one here. MHS2 will be released on July 9th. The free demo comes out on June 25th.
