After a year of exclusivity in the Epic Games Store, Mortal Shell arrives Steam on August 18. It is a day before the publication of The virtuous cycle, a great new expansion for Mortal Shell that adds a roguelike mode, a new playable shell (game classes adopt) and a new transforming weapon which recalls the so-called Bloodborne weapons.

The expansion looks promising, and if you have the game, there’s no reason not to check it out: it can be saved for free from August 18-22. This means that if you buy Mortal Shell, you can get the DLC pack on Steam for free. The offer applies to all available platforms, which presumably includes the Epic Games Store for players who already have them.

The roguelike mode includes all the pitfalls you might expect: the world is random, there are upgrade pillars strewn across the map, and there are "over 100 upgrades" ranging from exotic weapons to "completely new maneuvers." The new shell is Hadern, which includes talents, including mastery of daggers.

Mortal Shell is one of the best Soulslikes, with a score of 80 in our review. “Funnily hard and esoteric, albeit a bit uneven, Mortal Shell is a decent Cold Symmetry debut,” Rick Lane wrote.
