Revealed as part of today Transmission IGN Expo, this sleek and attractive trailer gives us a taste of the upcoming Sherlock game, simply titled Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One. This is the next Frogwares game, the first Sherlock game of which, Crimes & Punishments, is one of the best PC detective games.
Frogwares has been making Sherlock games for years and while they are ultimately quite successful, they are good great. Here we hope this new one will be another success for the developer.
This game is a little different. It is located entirely on a picturesque Mediterranean island and stars a younger and more arrogant Sherlock. Frogwares seems to be repeating the structure of the open world of his Lovecraftian version of the genre, The sinking city.
I'm a little wary, because when the developer tried to make Sherlock cooler and hotter in The Devil's Daughter, it didn't really work. But from what I've seen of this, the first of a nonspecific number of chapters seems much more promising.
With killer games like Disco Elysium, Murder By Numbers, Paradise Killer and Overboard, the mystery of murder has a renaissance style on the PC. So there has never been a better time for Frogwares to show everyone how it’s done. Next week I will get my hands on a first version of the game and have some deeper impressions.
