The four heroes of Call of Duty: Vanguard’s upcoming return to World War II may not be explicitly real people. But they are based on real people, following as closely as possible the famous fighters they are inspired by.

That’s why it’s a little more disconcerting than the New Zealander Charles Upham, one of the few men to have been awarded two Victoria Crosses, has become an Australian in his reimagining as Lucas Riggs of Vanguard.
