The Rimworld independent colony management sim was officially launched in October 2018, after spending more than five years in an early access state, but developer Ludeon Studios is still working on it. The studio announced today that there is a big free update and a new expansion called Ideology coming soon.
Update 1.3 is "quite large", which represents about 15 months of work in the game, and will add (among other things) a new system of feathers and fences for animals, a reworking of the system of factional goodwill, enemies more capable he will now use special tools to break down the basic defenses instead of trying to enter through the front door, drugs that settlers can carry and use, and beards. Why beards? “People have beards and they look bearded and awesome,” Ludeon explained.
Of course, there are a lot of additions, tweaks, changes, and fixes: a full description of everything that’s happening in update 1.3 is available in the change log.
The biggest offer, however, is the ideology update, which aims to give players more control over the narrative aspects of their colonies. Developer Tynan Sylvester said it arose as a reaction to seeing players create colonies based on certain “themes,” such as pirates, cannibals, and nomads.
"I thought, what if we did the system that allowed players to explicitly express all these different life forms? That's what we've spent the last 15 months working with ideology," Sylvester wrote.
"This expansion allows you to create a new belief system and act it in your colony. You can play as tree-worshiping cannibals carving skulls on all furniture, or light-fleeing blind tunnels, or transhumanists obsessed with perfect humans are trained with exotic technology – whether they are nudists, drug narcotics mystics, pirate pirates, or charity-focused donors, pain-loving animal sacrificers, or techno ravers of dance parties, or rustic cowboy jeans, or many more. "
Players will be able to mix various elements of their belief system and customize individual elements, from basic precepts and rituals to clothing, tattoos and beards in the way they see fit. There will also be a nice category of expanding missions described as "a kind of roguelike Indiana Jones-type challenge", as well as new dryad creatures, space piracy, and a new "Archonexus ending."
The Rimworld 1.3 update is currently expected to be released in a couple of weeks, placing it around mid-July, although Ludeon warned that it could change. If you want to try it for yourself right now, you can opt for the preview branch on Steam: right-click on RimWorld in the Steam library and select "Properties", select the "Beta" tab and choose the branch " 1.3 -Preview. " You may need to restart Steam to complete the process.
The Ideology expansion will be launched at the same time. While you wait, you can see some new screens below.
