Scavengers is holding a 5,000-player public event this weekend

Scavengers is a real battle, in a way, though James said in his April preview that it’s much more like a friendlier, more accessible version of Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown. Players join in three-man squadrons to fight for survival in a hybrid PvE / PvP arena, but the distinguishing factor is that victory is what you make of it: you may want to kill everything that moves or you may prefer just fill your pockets and bring your ass. Either way, winning is winning.

Something even more fun about Scavengers is the massive scale it is capable of using the experimental ScavLab sandbox, which we had a taste of last month in a test session with over 1,700 players. It was chaotic, but it worked and almost at the end of the session, developer Midwinter Entertainment pushed the player population to about 9,600, stressful but unmanageable. "Things remain surprisingly stable, even during the 15th wave of monster rain, thousands of virtual players adopting pre-recorded routes and behaviors," James wrote of the experience.
