Stranger things 3 is removed from steam and gog, but may soon appear in the netflix game app

Stranger Things 3: The game is retiring Steam i GOG on August 31st. Anyone who has the game in any storefront before removing it will still have full access, but will no longer be available for purchase.

"We are very grateful to all the Stranger Things fans who traveled with us in time until the summer of '85 for this adventure through Hawkins," the BonusXP developer told Steam.

No reason was given for the downgrade, but I guess Netflix claims control of its properties to further its own gaming ambitions. In May, the company announced a new push in video games, which was consolidated in July by hiring former Oculus content vice president Mike Verdu as vice president of game development. And it’s probably no coincidence that Netflix is now testing Stranger Things 3 and Stranger Things: 1984 through its mobile app in Poland.

Netflix said that the Stranger Things games offered through its app will not have ads or purchases from the app and will be included with Netflix members. It is unclear how, or if, non-subscribers will be able to access the game.

This will be the second loss of game content for Stranger Things fans this month: on August 16, Behavior Interactive announced that the Stranger Things content of the asymmetric survival-horror game Dead by Daylight would be withdrawn from sale on November 17 and again, one has not been provided the reason for the deletion. Dead By Daylight players received a decent warning window about the removal of content, although it is not being withdrawn from circulation until November 17, while the sudden withdrawal of the GOG seemed to surprise the users: The publisher's request for removal notice "was posted just over 24 hours before it is expected to occur. The Steam announcement, on the other hand, increased on August 25, a day before Netflix's announcement of the game application trial.

And it’s not just games that disappear. The Stranger Things 3: Twitter Game account has been deleted (here is a cached version of Wayback Machine) and the BonusXP Stranger Things 3 website it has also disappeared.

Stranger Things 3: The Game is also available at Epic games store, which currently does not indicate that there is a delete on the output, although this could be because Epic has no forums to post these messages to. I have contacted Epic to inquire about the status of the game and will update if I receive a response.
