Songs of Conquest was first shown at the PC Gaming Show in 2019 and returned this year to announce a release window and showcase some new gameplay footage, channeling classics like Heroes of Might & Magic. Check out the new trailer above.
When it appears in early 2022, you can step on the well-worn shoes of a Wielder, a powerful magician who travels up and down the beautiful fantastic land of pixels, entering into fights and building your kingdom.
While games like HoMM and Age of Wonders provide the basics, developer Lavapotion has made a few twists and turns, such as how Wielders get their magical power from their troops, rather than a pool of mana. Through their army, they obtain a special resource, Essence, which presents various flavors, depending on how you have built your strength.
Your little kingdom will have to compete with four factions, each with a unique list of units, aesthetics, and biomes. Here is a list of your future enemies:
- Arleón: Knights of always fighting among themselves to dominate
- Frog: Ancient tribes fighting for survival in the swamp
- Loth: Necromancers resurrect the dead to create a glorious future
- Barya: mercenaries and inventors dedicated to coinage and gunpowder
Along with the story campaign, which can also be played in local and online multiplayer, you can expect an in-game editor that lets you conjure up your own campaigns. With the editing tools, you can write in-game events, write dialogues, and even control the soundtrack.
Songs of Conquest will be released on Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store next year.
