If the Hollywood and Doom games have taught me anything, there's nothing good beneath the surface of Mars. Survive Mars ’latest expansion, Below & Beyond, is the first premium expansion since mid-2019, says the opposite.

In addition to new buildings and more resources, the great attraction of this DLC is the ability to explore the cavernous subterranean of Mars. Create your own network of tunnels and then install bases inside, either with pre-existing building types from the surface or specific subsoil building types. Unfortunately, I also don’t think it will survive in the tunnel caves that can occur.

The "Beyond" part of the DLC makes you create rocket-powered buildings that your settlers will mount to the passing asteroids. You’ll have a short time window to get the devil out of everything an asteroid carries, but stay too long and it will bring you your building and your people.

New progression paths include additions to the Recon and Expansion search trees. These include more buildings, vehicles, upgrades and premises, as well as asteroid mining and the underground tunnel.

Surviving Mars last had one some free DLC with the March 2021 Tourism update, which allows players to create getaways to the alien complex. The abstraction was taken over by original developer Haemimont Games, who say they have "ambitious" plans for the future of Surviving Mars. In ours Review surviving on Mars, editor Fraser Brown fell in love saying that "nothing else marries the survival and construction of cities with such skill. It's a complicated but satisfying space disaster."
