Bill, Francis, Louis and Zoey return, not in a new game of Left 4 Death, but in Zombie Army 4: Dead War, the cooperative third-person zombie shooter released by Rebellion in 2020.
It’s a natural fit for the game, as Zombie Army 4 multiplayer mode supports up to four cooperative players at once, only in the third person and not in the first place. The narrative, on the other hand, is a different story: Zombie Army 4 is set in a high-profile 1946 story in which Adolf Hitler turned the German army into zombies before being launched into a Hellmouth. The zombies are still nearby, but are now driving the victorious allies out of Germany and wreaking havoc across Europe.
The good news, for serious fans of storytelling, is that it doesn't seem like the arrival of Bill and friends is throwing that weird tale into too much mess. The new characters, which will be free for all players, appear next to it Abaddon Asylum, the second mission of the Return to Hell campaign that sees players make their way to the demonic asylum to confront and destroy the nefarious Baron Umbra.
It's not really the first time the band Left 4 Dead has made an appearance in the Zombie Army series: the original survivors, along with L4D2 crew coach Nick, Rochelle and Ellis, were added to the original 2015 Zombie Army trilogy.
The DLC also includes a new World War I suit, a World War II hat pack, the M1940 SMG, and Zombie Tank weapon skins. It is included with the Zombie Army 4 season pass and can also be purchased separately.
