If Age of Empires 4 hasn't entered your heart yet, maybe a little bit of Jeanne D'Arc, The Maiden of Orleans, will convince you. This is what Relic and Microsoft expect, at least, with the Age of Empires 4 trailer for the joint Microsoft / Bethesda E3 presentation today. Show some Joan of Arc trotting on a horse, carrying a load of cavalry and more than a few pieces: a horse archer right in the Asian steppe, a blacksmith working a forge and a siege that starts. It’s a pretty neat style, with bright outlines spread across real-world locations.
There was also more than a little new gameplay in the trailer:
Everything looks very Age of Empires 2, but with units of various models. Not all of the buildings are on the same scale as in the old game, but it’s a departure from the aesthetics of the series that still seems to me, but makes the large settlements take up much less screen space.
A brief variety of units appear in the brief combat fragments: French knights, war elephants, camel archers, Genoese crossbowmen, some of these spooky enchanted trebuchets in a chariot that crawl unmanned. All your favorite Age of Empires stuff is there.
However, it still does not tell us much about the game. Looks like we still have to do it stick to the development blocks to get crumbs about it. Or you can just keep watching our page on everything you need to know about Age of Empires 4.
Age of Empires 4 will be released on October 28, 2021. It will be available immediately on Xbox Game Pass for PC.
