The amiga 500 achieves a miniature transformation of the console

Commodore's classic Amiga 500 computer gets a new version of the console.

Retro Games, the brains behind the Commodore 64 Mini, has created the A500 Mini, which will hit the shelves in early 2022. It will cut you back to $ 139.99 / £ 119.99 and comes with a nice remake of the 2-button mouse and an 8-button Gamepad. Although the console has a decorative keyboard, you will need to plug one in for real functionality.

The A500 Mini comes loaded with 25 games like Worms, Another World and Simon the Sorcerer, but you can also insert a USB flash drive and load your own ROMs. It also includes full WHDLoad support, as well as classic emulation save states.

So far only 12 of the 25 games have been announced, but here is the current list:

  • Alien Breed 3D
  • Another world
  • ATR: All-terrain racing
  • Battle chess
  • Corpse
  • Release 2
  • Pinball Dreams
  • Simon the Wizard
  • Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
  • The engine of chaos
  • Worms: the director's cut
  • Zool: Ninja of the "umpteenth" dimension

Is it all a bit new? Probably yes, but there’s something endearing about having a dedicated device for playing old games, even if it’s the same emulator you’d use on your standard PC. Our own Andy Kelly built his own miniature PC for old console games earlier this year, enjoying both the process he shared and doing it yourself.
