True: Dead Space is back. During its live broadcast of EA Play on Thursday, EA unveiled a new version of the 2008 sci-fi horror shooter in development on EA Motive. Motive also developed quite well last year Star Wars Squadrons and the single player campaign for Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
The Dead Space series was originally developed by Visceral Games, which EA closed in 2017. Some former Visceral executives started a new studio in 2019 and unveiled their first game last year. The Callisto Protocol, which gave off strong vibrations of Dead Space. Now it looks like his spiritual successor will go from end to end with a new version of his original game.
Here is a summary of the new remake of EA's YouTube channel:
"The classic sci-fi survival horror space, Dead Space, has been completely rebuilt from scratch by Motive Studios to offer a deeper, more immersive experience. Leveraging the power of the Frostbite game engine and game consoles, "Next generation, this remake brings incredible visuals. Loyalty and gameplay improvements while staying true to the original. Dead Space will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and PC."
In an interview with IGN, the developers of the Dead Space remake of Motive confirm that the whole game is remade from scratch on Frostbite. "We're not wearing them, it's not improving the texture or adding more polygons to the model. It's really rebuilding all these elements, shooting all the animations," says creative director Roman Campos-Oriola.
It looks like the Dead Space remake will closely follow the original game, but it won’t be 1: 1. For example, Campos-Orihuela refers to unused level design pieces that were changed during the development of the original game. We could see that EA Motive is based on some of these original designs for its remake, in addition to the updated graphics and sound.
EA Motive also plans extended accessibility options and incorporates links to Dead Space 2 and 3 into the story or gets sequel improvements. One thing that will not return is the microtransactions of Dead Space 3: there will be nothing in the remake.
Development also seems to be very early: EA Motive says the previous trailer is an "atmospheric benchmark" for the purpose of the study. Looks like we'll wait a while.
