Thick space sailors are not the only problem facing an unfortunate zombie today. After all, it’s the Icon of Sin festival tomorrow and you don’t even have an appointment. Can you catch the demon of your dreams, or will Cyberdemon and his thugs from the knight of hell expel you from this profane high school party?
Posted last week and caught our attention by Waypoint, Doomed Love, by David Cooper, is a charming visual novel set in the underground world of Doom. With Doomguy nowhere to see, you’ll be busy trying to win the unbeatable hearts of four totally lovable demons.
Instead of the intense beasts of Eternal Doom, Cooper’s hells are gaffy, anxious, and adorable. In a particularly bright first line, your character reassures a stressed Cacodemon by saying, "There will already be a lot of demons there, we don't need to bring our personal demons either."
Nor can I prevent the art of Doomed Love from being adorable. The thick sprites have been reimagined as soft, watercolored friends, with a midi soundtrack reworking the crunchy Doom audio into thieves of pleasing melodies.
There are four finals to come (presumably one for each date, plus a fifth special ending), and Cooper promises that there is no violence or violence throughout, just a healthy date with demons. Doomed Love is free to play Itching.
