We’re a few weeks away from the last season of Apex Legends, Emergence, and it’s probably safe to say that the new Seer boy was properly destroyed on arrival. Respawn, to his credit, seems to agree, with a new, strong patch that arrives last night to drop the fashionable boy a few pegs.
this week balance update makes some serious swings in Seer, especially his tactical and passive aspect. The latter has become a little less ubiquitous, narrowing the field of vision and making it a little less accurate in tracking unseen enemies. Meanwhile, his tactics will no longer destroy targets or cause frustrating and effective damage through geometry.
The end of Seer remains largely unchanged, although an additional 30 seconds have been added to its recovery timer.
Good morning! We just posted an update to @playapex that fixes some bugs and introduces balance changes to Seer. See full details below: pic.twitter.com/9npkovEo5PAugust 23, 2021
Coming to Twitter, associate live balance designer John Larson delved into the changes, but also admitted that Seer probably released a little more spice than Respawn even intended. As anyone who has played Apex this season can tell you, running without a Seer can effectively blind you.
"As for Seer's release force, we lost the mark," Larson said. "Players should never feel the need to choose a legend / weapon for an entire season just to compete. Fortunately, we are a live game and we can repeat things."
Larson also delves a little deeper into the “Reveal” or “Wallhack” goal that has dominated Apex, with characters like Seer or Bloodhound becoming absurdly vital for their ability to see characters through the walls. The team doesn't have an immediate solution to share, but acknowledges that the fights that reduce those who scan their opponents the most aren't exactly fun.
"The seer has opened our eyes to what kind of information can be communicated through scans. A real-time silhouette for X seconds is different from step tracking or the health bar or passive heartbeat. All and that we can't resolve the pain points of the reveal goal in a review, I'm looking forward to eliminating long-term solutions with the rest of the design team ".
The seer is still powerful. Maybe even a little too powerful. But it’s a little less annoying to fight after the upgrade and I hope you end up finding a more comfortable place in the wider goal.
