Turtle Rock is finally ready to talk about the upcoming PvP mode of Back 4 Blood, and it sounds more and more like a return to form with the Versus mode of Left 4 Dead. In Back 4 Blood PvP, a team of players will turn into zombies (here it is called the "mounted") and take out the survivors as quickly as possible.
It runs through all the special infected types that can be played, including melee-focused Reeker, Blaster, Jumping Stalker, Acid Spitting Stinger, Tallboy with Big Weapons, and several other variants. It’s nice to see so many infected types that can be played here, because the lack of variety is one of the main reasons why the Versus mode of Left 4 Dead never left a big impression on me. I found it very fun to get along with the smoker and stealth as a hunter, but the novelty quickly wore off.
It seems that Turtle Rock really wants to turn PvP into Back 4 Blood into its own evolution, which is a good sign. The developers went into more detail in one showcase video dedicated to PvP. The main goal of the survivors is to survive as long as possible and each team will be scored based on how long the clock can run before changing roles. The Ridden apparently have their own set of upgrades that can make things harder for the survivors as the game progresses.
Back 4 Blood will finally arrive on October 12th and will be on the Xbox Game Pass immediately. An open beta for PvP mode kicks off on August 5th. Check out our full list of all the games at E3 2021 to catch up on the ads.
