At the Xbox Games Showcase Extended on Thursday, Ege of Empires 4 developer Emma Bridle dropped the names of the two final civilizations playable in the game at launch: the Holy Roman Empire and the Russian. Bridle also named the last two single-player campaigns in Age 4, The Rise of Moscow and the Mongol Empire. "We won't show them yet, this will be close to launch," Bridle said before breaking the news.
Age of Empires 4 is launched with eight civilizations and four historical campaigns, and now we know them all:
- English (Norman campaign)
- Sultanate of Delhi
- Mongols (campaign of the Mongol Empire)
- French (campaign of the war of the 100 years)
- Abbasid Dynasty
- Holy Roman Empire
- Russian (Moscow Rise campaign)
During the showcase, the developers of Age of Empires 4 talked a bit about how community feedback has influenced the design of the game, including some user interface tweaks, but the naval combat received a special call.
"We see data from all the Age of Empires games and the navy was one of those things that a lot of people don't use in Age 2, but if it weren't for it, people would miss it so much." said creative director Adam Isgreen. "Sometimes we have to ask these difficult questions when we play games. Do we need to do this? It's something that seemed strange to us, so we went to the (community) council and said, 'Hey, even you guys don't play in naval all the time. Do we need it? And they said, "We see your point, but no, you have to have that." It was a great reaffirmation. "
Age of Empires 4 has a beta release before release, which is scheduled for October 28th.
