Real martial arts combat is hard to come by in a game, but the creators of Absolver may be one of the few developers who can do it right. And in a trailer for his upcoming kung fu game, Sifu, we take a look at some of the worst ways to punch and hurt opponents.
Sifu was first unveiled in February, but we haven’t seen it until this trailer, which just debuted in IGN’s summer game showcase. It immediately evokes the style of its spiritual forerunner, Absolver, but it’s not in a whimsical fantasy setting and it’s also unique. Like any good kung fu movie, the trailer doesn't waste time with exposure. You get straight to the kick.
Set in a nightclub, the trailer gives us a good view of all the options players have while fighting. As expected, there is a great focus on using the environment to your advantage. Players can crash into walls and counters, but they can also grab weapons to give them an advantage. This may not seem so innovative on paper, so you should just watch the trailer above, because it all looks pretty sleek.
If you want to know more about Sifu, you can read The original story of Tyler in his ad that delves into the inspirations of the game and how it is dedicated to the authentic reproduction of Pak Mei Kung Fu.
Sifu will be out this fall.
