In June 2020, Bungie told Destiny 2 players that if they raised at least $ 777,777.77 (the studio really likes number seven) during their Live playback of Gaming Community Expo, maybe it would make, maybe, an official Destiny toaster. The community responded, raising more than $ 800,000 for St. Louis Children's Research Hospital. Jude during the Bungie block, and now the developer is maintaining the end of the deal.
Here is the majesty of the official Destiny toaster!
This is a real toaster that can really be bought, and yes, it actually burns the Tricorn emblem on bread. The sandwich holder shown in the pictures is included, and since it's Destiny 2, you'll also get the new toast theme. Emblem of burnt edges in the game.
Don’t you wonder why players wanted a Destiny toaster in the first place, aside from the obvious answer that toasts are delicious, it’s actually a riff on a couple of jokes. One, Destiny players have long referred to “getting this bread” as a shorthand to drop a set of God’s roll benefits into a loot booty. And two, Destiny 2 features an ugly-beautiful exotic fusion rifle called Jotunn that looks, well, very similar to a toaster.
The IRL Destiny 2 toaster can now be booked through Bungie shop for $ 85, which isn't really a terrible price for a toaster. Of course, it's impossible to tell how it compares to a nice Paderno or Lagostina unit, and it only has a two-part cutter, but my immediate impression is that it's a pretty reasonable price for a novelty toaster with a massive market appeal probably limited. (Let’s be honest, the average Walmart buyer probably doesn’t want the Destiny logo to be quantified on every sandwich they make).
Another good benefit is that the toaster will continue to support Bungie in St Jude's: Ten percent of the profits from the toaster will go to the hospital.
You may not notice it, but toasters are a surprisingly common feature of PC games. Razer makes one of its own (which I bet will cost well over $ 85), and at least theoretically it’s possible to play Doom on a toaster. And just last year, Wes got bored and built a 36TB home server the size of a toaster oven.
Let's get back to the issue at hand: the Destiny 2 toaster is now available for pre-order, but it's not expected to start shipping until December or January 2022. In the meantime, the GCX 2021 is in running and running until 13:00 PT / 16:00 ET on June 20: You can jump to the next stream, which at the time of writing already exceeded $ 3.4 million.
