Following last week's official announcement, Activision today shared a piece of the Call of Duty: Vanguard campaign during Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live broadcast. The demonstration (which you can see above) centers around the Stalingrad mission we had previously only heard of.
The mission stars Polina Petrova, a Soviet Red Army sniper and one of the four playable protagonists of the Vanguard campaign. We see Petrova fighting through a burning and bombed Stalingrad (the same Stalingrad mission that used the real San Francisco sky as a skybox reference). Petrova makes her way through a variety of weapons, from a knife to a shotgun, to a sniper rifle, and then to a Kar98.
It was a fantastic showcase of what seems like great feedback on weapons and reloading animations, but the mission itself is basically everything you’d expect from a standard CoD mission, now with nicer graphics. And go does it looks beautiful.
I was more interested in the campaign clip I saw at a closed press conference, which we tried last week. This mission was a slower, secretive survival mission that reminded me of Last of Us 2, but it’s clear that the Vanguard campaign will also have a good chunk of explosive and strong moments like the ones we saw today.
