The Amazing American Circus is a builder of digital fights about – you guessed it – a circus: specifically, a circus that travels the United States in the late nineteenth century. You’ll expand and update your show as you follow the open road from city to city, as you oppose a large number of opponents, including rival master masters and characters drawn from American history and folklore, such as Nikola Tesla and Bigfoot. Your ultimate goal: to act in front of President Teddy Roosevelt and his royal guest, Queen Victoria, and fight for a chance on a grand tour of Europe.
It’s a great premise and a bit unusual: at first glance it looks like a mix of Hearthstone, Darkest Dungeon and Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, but I think it also looks pretty promising as a more CCG narrative-focused view. The good news for anyone who is intrigued is that you can try it out right now, for free, courtesy of the open beta that kicked off today. Just travel to the Steam page and press the "request access" button and you will participate.
The beta version includes the first of four regions available at The Amazing American Circus, with several paths around the map and a variety of region-specific missions to complete and artists to hire. The only restriction of the beta version is that you will be limited to 21 stars of fame, which will help you advance in the game and face tougher opponents. (I imagine it will be more relevant in the full game than the beta of a single region).
The Amazing American Circus will release its full version on August 12th. Learn more at theamazingamericancircus.com, or just sit back and enjoy more than 20 minutes of play below.
