It was announced that Windows 11 will have built-in support for Android applications, and was very pleased. This is good news for anyone who wants to play games like Diablo Immortal on PC without having to download a third-party program full of ads. However, it was also announced that these apps will be available in the Microsoft Store through a partnership with Amazon's Android app store. What about apps that aren’t on Amazon or people who prefer not to give their money to Jeff Bezos?
Miguel de Icaza, a distinguished Microsoft engineer, has been on Twitter assuring people that apps will run even if they are not obtained from Amazon. Android programs are included as apk files, and apparently you will be able to do so "bring yours" and load them sideways.
So yeah, if you have a library of apks somewhere like itch.io, or are particularly attached to anything in the open source application library of F-Droid, will run on Windows 11. Here's everything we know about the Windows 11 release date, pricing, and what it means for games.
